How To Make an Abstract Art Painting Without a Brush
What is the point of trying to create a painting without a brush? It has to do with limitations. Limitations are the key to expanding your creativity.
Not using a brush is a challenging limitation, but it also opens up lots of curiosity. You have to think about what you could use instead of a brush and then experiment to see how the paint spreads around or what types of marks you can make with those items.
I used a bunch of different scrapers to make abstract florals in my sketchbook. They are very textural and I liked most of them. You’ll see the one I called kind of a mess when you watch the video below.
What do you think? Yes or no on avoiding a brush? I say go for it if you like a lot of texture and spontaneity. Also, it can be a fantastic way to let go of control and find more freedom.
